Jane B. Dunkleberger, 96, died March 9, 2018, surrounded by her loving family in Houston, Texas.

She was born December 1, 1921, on a family farm in Grant County near Deer Creek, Oklahoma, to Ira and Alberta (Lakey) Eshelman. She had four loving sisters: Edith, Eunice, Mabel, and Bonnie, as well as her brother Earl. Following her graduation from Phillips University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, she taught elementary school children for 32 years in Kansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. Her kind and compassionate nature led her to forge life-long relationships with teachers and students alike. Many of her former students remained in contact with her long after leaving her class. One former student recounted his relationship with Jane by saying, "I have been out of school for 42 years and Mrs. Dunkleberger is the only teacher I remember." She loved every student, and every student was her favorite.

Jane met Willis Dunkleberger following his return from fighting overseas during WWII. They were introduced by a mutual friend. They were married August 16, 1953, in Enid, Oklahoma, and remained very much in love for 48 years, until Willis' death in 2002. They had four children, Laura, Rebecca, Mike, and Beth. From her birth until her death, she cultivated the people around her with love, faith, music, her quick wit, and her home-cooked meals. Her kitchen table was always open to family and friends alike. She loved family get-togethers and spent hours cooking and preparing for her company. She loved her God, her garden, and holding and caring for her constant companion: her little dog Abbey. She was also a devoted and loving grandmother to her four grandchildren.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband Willis, her eldest daughter Laura, her parents, and her five siblings. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Rebecca and Gary McCormick of Katy, Texas; Mike and Robyn Dunkleberger of Skiatook, Oklahoma; and Beth Dunkleberger of Conroe, Texas; her four grandchildren: Garrett and Lauran McCormick, and Micah and Becca Dunkleberger; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who are also considered as family.

Jane's life will be celebrated by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2018, at Hawley Cemetery in Nash, Oklahoma, with Dr. Gary McCormick officiating. Arrangements are through Wilson Funeral Home in Pond Creek, Oklahoma.
