Woodlawn Cemetery History

The land now owner by Kenneth Alexander was owned by my Great Grandfather and left to his childern. My mother and her brothers and sisters were raise there.

Every week they and their mother, Gladys O. Alford, walked to the cemetery and took care of the up keep on the cemetery. Their dad, M. P. "Dick" Alford, helped to dig most of the graves during that time.

Now, once a year in the spring, they have a clean up day at the cemetery and several members of my family attend and help with the up keep on the cemetery.

Ronald Ford and Neal Owens take care of the mowing and let us know if there is other work they need help with.

I understand the record were lost when the last sexton died and no one was sure what happened to the Cemetery Board of Trustees, so they assumed they all died off and weren't replaced.

Neal & Ronald decided to volunteer as someone need to take care of the bank account and checks for the lease of the mineral and oil rights.

It is my understanding that they use that money and donations to pay for the up keep they do.
