SIMMONS IS DEAD RESULT OF FALL Fatally Injured When He Falls From Wagon; Funeral Held Sunday
J. B. Simmons, age 70, of near Verden was fatally injured when he fell from a wagon, on which he was hauling furniture, when his team became frightened by a truck on the highway four miles west of Verden.
Funeral services for Mr. Simmons, who is survived by his wife and a daughter, were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Church at 3:30 o'clock with Rev. Perry conducting the services.
Interment was made in the Verden cemetery.
Mr. Simmons was helping a family move to a farm west of Verden when the accident occurred.
It was stated that Mr. Simmons was seated on a kitchen cabinet in the wagon when the truck drove by and the team became frightened. Mr. Simmons stood up in the wagon to bring the team under control when the cabinet toppled out of the wagon and he fell. His head struck the rear fender of the truck and his neck was broke.
An inquest in the accident was conducted by Caddo county officials and B. G. Holding, Grady county attorney, was notified Saturday morning by the Anadarko justice of the peace that no blame for the accident was placed against the truck driver by the corner's jury.
