Francis M. Tims

F. M. Tims was born in White County, Arkansas, October 15th, 1852. He was left an orphan when quite young, being reared by an older brother and sister.

He always had a welcome in his home for orphans.

He was for many years a faithful and consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and moving to the Indian Territory in an early day, he helped to organize churches at several different places in this country. One event of this kind, long to be remembered by the people of Marlow and vicinity, was the organizing of the. M. E. Church at Sand Hill, just east of the city. For many years he served as steward in the church of his choice. He was an earnest worker in Sunday schools and enthusiastic superintendent of Sunday schools; a man of strong convictions and very loyal to any cause to which he espoused.

Leaving Marlow in 1908, he went to Boaz, N. M., where he helped to organize the first Methodist Church. Returning to Marlow in 1910, he located just east of Rush Springs, at which place he departed this life March 4th, 1912. Interment was in the Rush Springs Cemetery.

The deceased leaves a wife, eleven children and twenty-two grandchildren to mourn his loss; also a wide circle of friends in the vicinity of Marlow, as well as other places, that extends to the bereaved family their sympathy.

During the last few weeks of his illness he spoke often of having to leave his family, but said he was ready to go and meet the blessed Savior at any time. These words alone should be a great consolation to those left behind and should give us all new courage to press on in the service of the Lord, that we too may be able to say, when death shall claim us as his own, we are ready to go.

"Oh! Death, where is thy sting? Oh! Grave, where is thy victory?" "They that sow to the Spirit, shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting."

A BROTHER IN CHRIST
