H. Sam Wheeler

Funeral services will be held for H. Sam Wheeler, 90, of Chickasha at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2012, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Kim Hayes officiating.

Sam Wheeler was born in Verden, Oklahoma, on May 24, 1922, the son of Robert Lee Wheeler and Rosie [Woods] Wheeler. He died on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, in Chickasha.

Sam grew up on his parent's farm west of Chickasha. He attended Valley View School through the sixth grade and transferred to Chickasha Public Schools where he met his future wife Bernice. After High School Sam attended Oklahoma A&M (now OSU) and graduated in 1939.

On November 22, 1941, Sam eloped with the love of his life, Bernice Heisler, to Anthony, Kansas, where they were married. They had sixty five happy years together and during that time they welcomed two children into the world: Phil and Karen.

Sam was a member of the United States Army and later became a self-employed farmer and rancher throughout the Grady county area.

He was a member of The Oklahoma Hereford Association and The National Hereford Association. Sam was also very active in The Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association and he was a founding member of the Chickasha Elks Lodge.

Sam was very active in the agriculture community throughout Grady County. He was a supporter of Chickasha Future Farmers of America. He had won numerous farming awards during his career as a farmer and rancher.

He will be truly missed by family and many friends.

Sam was preceded in death by: his loving wife, Bernice and both parents.

Survivors include: one son and daughter in-law: Phil and Lynda Wheeler, of Chickasha; one daughter and son in-law: Karen and Tom Singleterry, of Dallas, Texas; two grandsons: Will Wheeler and wife Nicole, of Chickasha, and Seth Wheeler, of Tulsa; three granddaughters and their husbands: Tracy and Patrick Yokley, of Vallejo, California, Misha and Matt Hillstrom, of Dallas, Texas, and Summer and Jason Mangum, of Singapore; one great grandson: Aiden Mangum.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.

Phyllis "Bernice" [Heisler] Wheeler

Funeral services for Phyllis Bernice Wheeler, 85, of Chickasha will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2006, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Kim Hayes officiating.

Phyllis Bernice Wheeler was born March 16, 1921, in Tabler, Oklahoma the daughter of Philip and Madie [Ballard] Heisler. She died October 9, 2006 in Chickasha.

She grew up in Chickasha and graduated from Chickasha High School. She attended Oklahoma College for Women and Oklahoma A&M (now OSU), graduating in 1942, with double major in Food & Nutrition and Child Development.

On November 22, 1941, during Thanksgiving vacation, Bernice eloped with the love of her life Sam Wheeler to Anthony, Kansas where they were married. They have had 65 wonderful years together and were blessed with two children: Phil and Karen.

Bernice had a love for music. She became an accomplished piano player at an early age and she played the clarinet in her high school band and in the Martin Marching Traveling Band, as did her future husband.

In college she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Social Sorority at Ohlahoma A&M. After college she was active in AAUW, the DAR, and for a time the "1938 Study Club."

Bernice was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by both parents; and one brother, Gerald Heisler.

Survivors include husband, Sam Wheeler, of the home; son and daughter-in-law: Phil and Lynda Wheeler, of Chickasha; daughter and son-in-law: Karen and Tom Singleterry, of Dallas, Texas; two grandsons: Will Wheeler, of Chickasha and Seth Wheeler, of Tulsa; three granddaughters: Tracy Yokley, of Campbell, California, Misha Singleterry, of Dallas, Texas, and Summer Mangum and husband Jason, of Dallas, Texas.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Bernice's two loving and faithful caregivers: Betty Beets and Dovie Clouse.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
