Vira Mae [Davidson] Peavler

On October 25, 2015, Vira Mae [Davidson] Peavler, 100, ascended into Heaven. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she joined her husband, Robert Weldon Peavler. He had preceded her in death in December of 1999 at which time they had enjoyed 62 years of marriage together. No doubt the rejoicing continues as Mae joined her parents, Lester Ward Davidson and Alpha Nellie Holden Davidson, along with five brothers and two sisters.

Mae is survived by a brother, Les Davidson, of Norman and his wife, Ruetta; and by two sons, Robert Neal Peavler and his wife Nancy of Las Vegas, Nevada and Ronald Gene Peavler and his wife Nancy of Norman, OK. She leaves behind four grandsons, five granddaughters, six great grandsons and four great granddaughters. She is also survived by many special nieces, nephews and friends whom she loved dearly. Mae had a servant heart and always looked forward to times when all the family was together.

Born in Altus, Oklahoma on January 13, 1915, Mae grew up in Chickasha where she graduated from high school in 1932. Shortly thereafter, she met her husband at Michigan Avenue Baptist Church. They were married June 5, 1937 and moved to Oklahoma City.

When WWII began, Mae worked on gyroscopes at Tinker Air Force Base. After the war, she worked at John A. Brown in Capitol Hill. During these years, Mae was an active member of Agnew Avenue Baptist Church. In 1951, the family moved to Tyler, Texas due to a job transfer. The family joined First Baptist Church of Tyler where Mae was very active in several church organizations and taught in children's Sunday school. Outside of church, Mae worked as a loan officer at East Texas Savings and Loan for almost twenty years. She was also involved in the Rose Garden Club.

Mae and Bob returned to Oklahoma in 1979 and established a home in Moore. She continued her interest in flowers and gardening. They became active members at the First Baptist Church of Moore. While there, one of the highlights of her life was a trip they took to the Holy Land with Rev. Paul Box. In 1996, they moved to Norman to be near her son Gene. She lived in her own home until she was 98, at which time she moved in with Gene and Nancy. She resided with them up to the time of her death. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Norman, where she was active in the senior adult choir. She faithfully served the Lord throughout her life. She will be remembered for her generous spirit and her loving kindness to all.

Viewing will be Friday, November 6 from 4-7 pm at Havenbrook Funeral Home. Services will be 10 am Saturday, November 7 at Bethel Baptist Church of Norman. Her interment will be at 2 pm, November 7 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Chickasha, OK. Memorial gifts may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 1717 W. Lindsey St. Norman, OK 73069. The family also wishes to express appreciation to Loving Care Home Health and Norman Regional Hospital for their care of Mae in these recent weeks.
