Ruby Hortense [Kiser] Payne

Ruby Hortense Payne, 85, of Elgin, died Friday, February 17, 2006 in Bethany, Oklahoma. She was born the only child of Sam and Mabel Kiser on July 4, 1920 in Tabler, Oklahoma.

She use to tell of riding a horse to school at the Middleburg School, from which she graduated.

Hortense married Jesse Payne on August 29, 1939 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

She and her husband, Jesse moved to the Elgin area in 1940 and she lived there until she moved to an assisted living facility in June of 2005 to be near her children.

She was very active in the Elgin United Methodist Church and the VFW Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She loved hosting the Payne Family Reunion in Elgin the past few years, they will all miss her very much.

She is survived by her son, Larry Payne and his wife, Donna; her daughter, Linda Wasson and her husband, Ronald, five grandsons, eight great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

Services will be Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Elgin, Oklahoma with Pastor Yap and Pastor Thoma officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Holl Cemetery, Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hodge Funeral Home in Elgin, Oklahoma. Family requests in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life in Elgin, Oklahoma or the First United Methodist Church in Elgin.
