Nellie Jo [Perkins] McIntosh

Our beloved mother Nellie Jo McIntosh, 91, passed away on January 6, 2006.

She was born on June 12, 1914, in Oklahoma City to Mable and Jay Perkins.

She graduated from Chickasha High School and attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha.

On September 3, 1939, she married Joe W. McIntosh. They had a wonderful marriage of 51 years, with Joe preceding her in death on January 18, 1991.

She was preceded in death by bother, Merrill Perkins and is survived by one sister, Louise Cannella, of Marinette, Wisconsin. There are four surviving children: Cheryl L. McIntosh, Joe K. McIntosh and wife Mary, and Jay C. McIntosh and wife Robin, all residing in Oklahoma City. Dorsey K. McIntosh and wife Renee reside in Budapest, Hungary.

There are also eight surviving grandchildren and one surviving great grandchild. Meagan McIntosh Adams and husband Josh, with daughter Molly, residing in Greensboro, North Carolina; Matthew K. McIntosh residing in Lexington, Kentucky, Mark E. McIntosh residing in Chattanooga, Tennessee; Haley L. McIntosh, Allison K. McIntosh, John K. McIntosh, Andrew K. McIntosh, and Philip S. McIntosh, all residing in Oklahoma City.

After leaving college, she worked for Chickasha Cotton Seed Gin and First National Bank.

In 1942 her husband, Joe was drafted. She followed him to Colorado Springs and Durham, North Carolina. In 1945 Joe and Nellie Jo returned to Chickasha and established their home and raised their family.

After focusing on family, in 1952, Nellie Jo began her career in Chickasha as Administrative Assistant to the Postmaster. In 1964 she became the Civil Services Examiner for the U.S. Government, retiring in 1979 after a gratifying career.

During those years, Nellie Jo was involved in many church, social, and community activities. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, serving both Deaconess, Elder, and first female chairperson of the board. She helped organize and was charter member of the Altrusa. She was also a member of Philo Mathes, church circle, and volunteer of meals on wheels.

Mother will be remembered by those whose lives she touched as a person grounded with Christian beliefs and an acceptance of all.

Nellie Jo will be lying in state at Vondel Smith North in Oklahoma City, Sunday through Tuesday evening, and Wednesday, January 11th at the First Christian Church in Chickasha, at 6th and Kansas, from 10:00 a.m. until her funeral service at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the First Christian Church of Chickasha, or to the New Covenant Christian Church located at 12000 N. Rockwell, OKC, OK, 73162.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
