Death Claims Aged Man

The death of Dr. J. Kendall occurred last night at 12:15 at his home on South Eighth Street.

Funeral services were conducted at the family residence by Rev. M. L. Butler this afternoon at 4:00 o'clock and internment occurred at the Odd Fellow's cemetery.

The deceased was born in Bowling Green, Ky., on May 27, 1825. He is survived by a wife [Alzina Wood Kendall] and six children: Mrs. J. G. Mayes [Josephine or Josie], and Mrs. Lee Reynolds [Nellie] of this city, Mrs. J. W. Perkins [Mable] of Oklahoma City,

Misses Rita [Margaret] and Ethel Kendall, and Luther Kendall. Dr. Kendall was a consistent member of the Methodist Church and was also a Mason.

For a number of years he had been retired from the practice of his profession.

He was a devoted husband and father and among all who knew him he bore the reputation of being an exemplary citizen and a man of unimpeachable character.

Dr. J. Kendall was born Josiah Kuykendall. He received his medical degree at St Louis Univeristy in 1853 and was in Texas by 1854. After the Civil War, he moved back to Kentucky before moving on to Kansas. In the late 1870's he moved back to Texas and sometime prior to 1900, moved to Chickasha.

In 1871, while living in Kansas, he had the family's name legally shortened to Kendall.

Other surviving children, who were not mentioned in his obituary - by his first wife, Amanda Hunter of Texas - two daughters (Amanda Z. and Martha C.) and a son (Oscar J.).
