Joelene [Emenhiser] Johnson

Joelene was born September 19, 1919 in Hollister, OK to Roy W. And Blanche Wolfe Emenhiser.

She died May 24, 2007 at home in Chickasha, after suffering a stroke more than eight years ago.

She graduated from Hollister High School in 1937 as valedictorian.

Joelene attended Oklahoma College for Women, now USAO, in Chickasha, and was awarded a B.S. in Vocational Home Economics in 1941.

While at O.C.W., she was a member of Be Si Ta social sorority, Pi Zeta Kappa religious club Y.W.C.A. Cabinet and an honorary scholastic sorority and Alpha Eta home economics club. She was elected by faculty and students as the 1941 May Queen.

After graduation from O.C.W., Joelene first taught home economics for two years in Roosevelt, Oklahoma.

In Frederick High school she taught for two years during the War, and finally at Chickasha High School.

She married Joe B. Johnson in Chickasha on October 6, 1942.

They made their home and established Johnson's Printing and Office supply, a printing, business, greeting card and gift shop business in Chickasha and continued operating the business for more than 50 years before retiring.

In Chickasha, they raised three children and were later blessed with four grandchildren.

Joelene was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church for more than sixty years; a member of the Wedding Ring Sunday school class and United Methodist Women.

She was a life member and president of Chi Beta Delphian study club.

She was very involved with her husband in American Business Clubs, Kiwanis Club, SPEBSQSA (Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America) and with their children in many activities such as Girl and Boy Scouts, Sweet Adelines, many other musical activities, baseball, golf and other sports.

Joelene was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Willa Jean Holloman and brother Wayne.

She is survived by daughter Diana Daugherty and husband Dale, Branson, MO; daughter Jan Park and husband Charles, Chickasha; and son Brent and wife Jacquelyn, Oklahoma City. Grandchildren are Marlowe and Mackenzie Park, Chickasha; and Jennifer and Robert Johnson, Oklahoma City. Joelene is also survived by sister Elizabeth E. Fischer, Dallas, and many devoted nieces, nephews cousins and friends.

Joelene was an amazing woman of generous love for family and friends; she remained active in the activities of all those she loved; and was possessive of a tenacious faith and natural beauty.

She thought of others before herself and always had words of kindness, wisdom and encouragement for everyone; a truly lovely and gracious lady, and gentle spirit.

Funeral Service will be at Epworth United Methodist Church, Chickasha, Tuesday, at 2:00 P.M. under direction of McRay Funeral Home.

The family requests memorials be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church Choir stained glass fund.
