Ben E. Goff

GOFF SERVICES SET WEDNESDAY

Ben E. Goff, 55, 627 South Sixth, died at 8 o'clock last night in a local hospital following an illness of two weeks.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am Wednesday in the First Christian Church by Rev. Kenneth Garrison. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Chickasha Funeral Home.

Mr. Goff was born Dec. 9, 1888, at Throckmorton, Texas. He was reared in the western part of the state near Hobart, and moved to Chickasha in 1914. He has practiced law here since that time. Mr. Goff, a former county attorney and U. S. commissioner, served an unexpired term as county commissioner. He was a member of the Christian Church, World War I veteran and was an active member of the Democratic party.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Goff, one son, Benjamin A. Goff, and one daughter, Carol Kay Goff, both of the home address; one sister, Mrs. Georgia Hinson, Carter; and one brother, Charles Goff, Butler.

Hazel [Smith] Goff

Hazel Goff was born March 21, 1908 in Chickasha, OK. She died July 12, 1994.

One of eight children born to Rebecca and Alex Smith, Hazel was a lifelong resident of Chickasha.

Throughout her long life, she distinguished herself as a generous, intelligent and remarkable woman.

Hazel married her beloved husband, Ben Goff in 1932.

Hazel and Ben were both active in the Democratic Party. Hazel served as secretary of the Grady County Democratic Party, while Ben served as county attorney of Grady County, on the Chickasha City Council and later as United States Commissioner at Chickasha.

After Ben's death in 1944, Hazel supported her two small children, being appointed by Governor Robert S. Kerr as county tag agent and later became a legal secretary for Allen & Pain. In 1948, Hazel became official court reporter for the Fifth Judicial District of OK. and served with District Judge L.A. Wood. She then served with Judge Sam Williams until their retirement in 1978. During her more than 30 years of service, Hazel was recognized as the "Best District Court Reporter" in OK.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chickasha.

She is survived by her sister, Geneva Browne of Whittier, Ca.; her son, Ben A. Goff and his wife, Carmen Goff of Dallas, TX.; her daughter, Carol Inman of MWC; and her grandchildren, Benjamin A. Goff and his wife, Teresa, Brentwood, TN., Kevan Goff-Parker and her husband, John Parker, OKC, Bruce Goff, OKC, Jimmy Goff, Dallas, TX., Carol Lee and Mary K. Inman, MWC; and 4 great grandsons.

Services 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel at Sevier Funeral Home, Chickasha, OK. Burial, Rose Hill Cemetery.
