Mabel Gilley was born September 28, 1903, in Lindale, Texas. She died July 8, 2007, in Chickasha.

Mabel Clay [Pinkley] Gilley


Funeral services for Mabel Gilley, 103, of Chickasha will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 12, 2007, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.

Mabel Gilley was born September 28, 1903, in Lindale, Texas, the daughter of Clay and Fannie [Barclay] Pinkley. She died July 8, 2007, in Chickasha.

Mabel came to Chickasha in 1905, at age 2 years. She grew up in Chickasha and attended Chickasha Schools.

After her schooling, Mabel went to work as a nurse and she took on the rearing of her 7 year old brother. Two years later, on December 21, 1921, she married her beloved husband, William "Carl" Gilley, and they had two children of their own.

She was a stay at home mom while her children were growing up, devoting herself to being an active, caring, loving and devoted mother; she then opened a home daycare, which she operated for over 20 years. She instilled her love and values into many of the local children throughout her career. She retired in 1996, at the age of 93.

Ms. Gilley was the oldest and longest member of the First Baptist Church , being a member for 62 years.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Carl Gilley; both parents; two sons: Bill and Eugene Gilley; three brothers; three sisters; and one nephew.

She is survived by granddaughters: Darlene Wooldridge and Karla Williams; grandson, Bryan Gilley and wife Regina; great-grandsons: James Anderson, Justin Williams, David Wooldridge and Wade Wooldridge; one great-great- grandson; nephew, Bill Eschliman; daughter-in-law, Karlene Woodard and husband, Tom; nieces and special friends: Steve Godin, Shirley Burns, and Toye Yoder.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
