Hazel Irene [Weaver] Ersland

Funeral services for Hazel Irene Weaver Ersland, 85, of Chickasha will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at the First Lutheran Church in Chickasha.

Hazel Irene Weaver Ersland was born in Chickasha on September 5, 1919. She was the daughter of Jacob R. Weaver and Harriet Eldred Weaver. Hazel graduated from Chickasha High School, North Oklahoma Jr. College in Tonkawa and Military Radio Engineer's School in Kansas. Hazel married Private Albert A. Ersland, Jr. in Chickasha, December 31, 1941; they celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Hazel worked as a radio engineer in Kansas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. She also repaired radios in California and Oklahoma. Hazel later worked as a nurse's aid at Eventide Nursing Home and Grady Memorial Hospital for 14 years, and later as a volunteer at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Hazel was active in activities at First Lutheran Church in Chickasha all her life. She has been past commander of VFW Auxiliary, active in N.A.R.F.E. activities for 12 years, and has been an avid reader all her life. She loved caring for people.

Hazel was preceded in death by her mother and father, son, Jonathan, infant sister, and three brothers, Adalbert, Thomas and Theo Weaver.

Hazel was an amazing, kind, caring, woman loved by many friends and relatives; but most of all she will be missed by her family, husband Albert A. Ersland, Jr., sons Albert Ersland 3rd, and wife Patricia of Crowley, Texas; Dr. Jerome Ersland of Chickasha; daughter Laurel Boyd and husband Sam of Blanchard. Six grandchildren, Elizabeth Crowder and husband Jared of Fort Worth, Texas; Jeffrey Ersland and wife Alisha of Moore; Catherine Roe and husband Don of Chickasha; Adam Boyd of Oklahoma City; Brooke and Jeremy Ersland of Norman. Also, four great grandchildren and two soon to be born great grandchildren.

Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
