Mary Alice [Duncan] Elston

Funeral service for Mary Alice Elston, age 98 of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010, in the Southern Oaks Church of Christ. Jim Sheerer will officiate and Jack Jerman will assist.

Mary Alice was born the daughter of Paul David Duncan and Irene Lewis Duncan on August 15, 1911, in Streetman, Texas. She died on January 19, 2010, in Chickasha.Alice grew up in the Chickasha area and graduated from Chickasha High School.

She married Frank James Elston in 1929, and they established their home in Chickasha. Alice spent her life as a loving wife and mother making homes wherever her husband's work took her. She loved to cook and was famous for her pies and cakes.

Alice lived most of her life in Chickasha loving nature and enjoying the wild flowers in the pastures of her farm. She loved to watch the birds that came to the feeders in her yard. She was also a member of the Rural Neighbors Home Extension Club winning numerous blue ribbons as an accomplished seamstress on garments made and exhibited at the county fair. Alice enjoyed quilting and embroidering and made many quilts for her children, grandchildren and baby quilts for members of her church.

Alice was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.

She was a charter member of the 16th and Florida Church of Christ and was presently a member of the Southern Oaks Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank James Elston in 1975; parents, Paul and Irene Duncan; two brothers, Lewis and Ira Duncan; two sisters, Annie Ruth Brooks and Naomi Parrick.Survivors include: Daughters: Fayetta Longwell of Annapolis, Maryland and Barbara Sides of Ft. Worth, Texas; Son and Wife: Jerry and Flo Elston of Perkins; Daughter and Husband: Dixie and Ron McWhorter of Aurora, Colorado; Fourteen Grandchildren: Susan Longwell Wyatt of Annapolis, Maryland; John Timothy Longwell of Annapolis, Maryland; Kathryn Longwell of Tacoma, Washington; David Barton of Longview, Texas; Paul Barton of Ft. Worth, Texas; Daniel Sides of Mansfield, Texas; Rebekah Sides of San Bruno, California; Kevin McWhorter of Wichita, Kansas; Kris Margheim of Meridian, Idaho; Karen Glassman of Estes Park, Colorado; Tamara Elston of Alexandria, Virginia; Kelley Elston of Fife, Washington; Lynne Coppedge of Chickasha; Dixie Elston of Chickasha; Twenty Great Grandchildren; Three Great Great Grandchildren.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. Viewing will be Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m..
