James Jay & Mary Tennie Conrad

Services for J. Jay Conrad, 78, former Chickasha mayor, are set for 2:30 p.m., Friday, in Epworth Methodist church with Rev. Earl Walker officiating.

Mr. Conrad died in a local hospital at 6:30 a.m. today. He had been hospitalized for three weeks.

Born in Corunna, Ind., Mr. Conrad came to Chickasha in April 1904. He and his brother, M.C. Conrad, purchased the Chickasha Iron Works.

A member of the Methodist church, he served on the board of stewards. He was a member of the Oddfellows lodge, Lions club, served several years on the city council and following that, served two terms as mayor.

Survivors include his wife, Tennie; two daughters, Mrs. F.B. Baker and Mrs. Glen Hines of Chickasha; two sons, Emery and Bob Conrad, both of Chickasha; one step-son, Arthur Kelly of Dallas; a sister, Mrs. George Walter of Chickasha; and one brother, D.E. Conrad of Rock Island, Ill., and four grandchildren.

Interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery under the direction of the Brown Funeral Home.

Mary Tennie Conrad

Mrs. J. J. Conrad

Funeral service for Mrs. J.J. Conrad, 96, 811 South 17th Street, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel of the Brown Funeral Home with Rev. David E. Parker, Jr. officiating.

Mrs. Conrad was born Dec. 6, 1878 and was married to James Jay Conrad in 1909. He preceded her in death in 1951.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Josephine Hines and Mrs. Gladys Baker of Chickasha; and two sons, Bob Conrad and Emery Conrad of Chickasha; one brother, W.H. Huffaker of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
