Lucille Fay [Monroe] Bowers

Funeral service for Lucile Monroe Bowers, age 94 of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, in the First Christian Church of Chickasha. Rev. Michael Oberlender will officiate.

Lucile was born the daughter of Edgar Carter Monroe and Mattie Roberts Monroe on January 21, 1914, in Dexter, Texas. She died on July 30, 2008, in Oklahoma City. On May 23, 1936, she married Woodrow Bowers. He preceded her in death in 1974.

Mrs. Bowers graduated from Amber High School in 1930. She attended Oklahoma College for Women (now USAO) for two years and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1935 from Central State in Edmond. Lucile taught school at Dewey and Amber. In 1974, she started work at the Grady County Court Clerk's office where she remained until her retirement in 1993. Lucile was a member of the First Christian Church of Chickasha for more than sixty years. She was a fifty year member of Chapter P.E.O.-DV.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers, and one daughter, Jane Bowers McKinney, in November of 1996. Survivors include: granddaughter and husband: Sarah Jane and Matt Gillett of Tulsa; granddaughter and husband: Anne and Roone Richmond of Oklahoma City; great granddaughter: Natalie Jane Gillett of Tulsa; great Granddaughter: Emma Jane Richmond of Oklahoma City; great granddaughter: Lucy Anne Richmond of Oklahoma City; brother: Don Monroe of Amber; and, son-in-law and wife: Kenneth and Debbie McKinney of Oklahoma City.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Services will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. There will be no viewing at any time. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church.
