© Chickasha Express~Star Chickasha, Oklahoma Wednesday, 29 March 2006 Lowell Vernon Doke Funeral service for Lowell Vernon Doke, 93, of Pocasset, Oklahoma will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 31, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Pocasset. Lowell Vernon Doke was born March 21, 1913 in Cogar, Oklahoma the son of Willie Lowell and Mary Loubelle [Wilkerson] Doke and died March 28, 2006 at his home in Pocasset. Lowell moved to Pocasset in 1916 and graduated from Pocasset High School in 1931. He then worked for the Rock Island Railroad for eight years. Later he attended Hills Business University for a year and a half. He joined the Army and served as a General's secretary. He became a commissioned officer and was assigned as commander of the 33rd Infantry Division. They were shipped to Maui, Hawaii where they manned observation posts. It was in Maui he met his lovely wife, Ivy Leinani Marciel, fell in love and married. Lowell was shipped to New Guinea where he was injured in the jungle and rescued by the New Guinea natives. His wife and daughter joined him later in Pocasset. Lowell served as the Pocasset Postmaster for 2 years, then transferred to a rural route carrier and served his patrons for 25 years. After retiring he began bowling and helped out by working there. He was known at the bowling alley as "Papa Dokes." After retiring again, he spent his time helping out in the garden, running around with his wife and enjoying his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lowell was an eighty-three year member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Pocasset. He contributed by helping with the building projects and serving as a deacon, treasurer and Sunday School teacher. He was a charter member of the Lions Club in Pocasset and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was preceded in death by: father: W. L. Doke; mother: Mary Loubelle Doke; infant daughter: Mary Doke. Survivors include: wife: Ivy Leinani Doke of the home; one daughter: Betty Jean Jones of Tuttle; two sons and daughters-in-law: Vernon J. and Jeanne Doke of Minco; Robert Lowell and Debbie Doke of Amber; grandchildren: Cody Ray and Connie Jones of Tuttle; Kandi and Chad Rogers of Tuttle; Kevin and Angie Doke of Yukon; Mindy Coulson of Edmond; Kesha and Darin Harryman of Budapest, Hungary; Keegan and Dedra Doke of Amber; great grandchildren: Ashley and Jessi Campbell, Derick Potter, Cory Potter, Kyra Reed, Keaton Rogers, Kai Rogers all of Tuttle; Matthew Doke of Yukon; Presley Palmer of Edmond; Sydney Doke and Aubrey Doke of Amber. Interment will be in the Pocasset Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Pocasset. |
© Sevier Funeral Home Chickasha, Oklahoma Friday, January 8, 2016 Ivy L. [Marciel] Doke Ivy Doke was born November 4, 1927 in Hana Maui, Hawaii to Joseph and Josephine [Akiona] Marciel. She passed away on Friday, January 8, 2016 in Amber, Oklahoma at the age of 88. She came to Pocasset in 1945 from Hawaii and worked at the Opportunity Workshop in Chickasha. She worked at Gabriel ,formerly Maramont, for 20 years. She retired at the age of 65. Mrs. Doke was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Pocasset. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lowell Doke; an infant daughter; and a son-in-law, Raymond Paul Jones. Mrs. Doke is survived by her children: Betty Jones; Robert Doke and his wife, Debbie; Vernon "Bud" Doke and his wife, Jeanie; Grandchildren: Cody Ray and Connie Jones; Kandi and Chad Rogers; Kevin and Angie Doke; Mindy Kellam and Belo; Kesha and Darin Harryman; Keegan and Dedra Doke: Great Grandchildren: Ashley and Jessie Campbell, Kelsey and Derick Potter, Breanna and Cory Potter, Kyra Reed, Keaton Rogers, Kai Rogers and Kale Rogers, Matthew Doke, Presley Palmer and Kennedy Kellam, Sydney Doke, Aubrey Doke, Aidan Doke, Colin Harryman |
