James F. Hargis

Funeral services for James F. Hargis, age 90, of Chickasha, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at the Grand Assembly of God Church. Rev. Larry Hatfield and Rev. Justin Harris will officiate. Interment will be in the Little Cemetery at Little, Oklahoma.

Jim was born the son of Patrick Hargis and Estelle Rush Hargis, on December 17, 1913, in Hallett, Oklahoma, a little oilfield town near Seminole, Oklahoma. He graduated from high school in New Lima, Oklahoma. Jim went to work for Pure Oil Company with his father Patrick Hargis, He worked for Pure Oil Company for 10 years.

He married Elaine Colem a teacher from Sapulpa, Oklahoma, on June 1, 1954, in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Jim and Elaine lived the first few years of their married life in Houston, Texas. They then found work in Venezuela, South America.

Jim worked for Phillips Petroleum and Continental Oil Company for many years. Jim and Elaine returned to the U.S. and settled in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Jim continued his work as a consultant and retired at age 72. Jim was a member of the Grand Assembly of God Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marietta Sirles.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Hargis of the home; son, Col. Jerry Hargis of Weatherford, Oklahoma; son, James Hargis of Oklahoma City; son, Jon Hargis of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; daughter, Kim Ellis of Spring, Texas; seven grandchildren.

Services are under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
