William Loyd "Blackie" Holmes

William Loyd Holmes was born on January 22, 1916 in Verden, Oklahoma, the son of William Burton Holmes and Minnie Ellen Holder Holmes. He died on Tuesday, February 23, 1999, at his home in Cement, at the age of eighty-three years, one month, and one day.

He married Ruby Lee Bridge on October 18, 1933, in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Mr. Holmes moved to Cement in 1961 from Cyril. He worked for Phillips Petroleum until his retirement in 1979. William was a member of the Cement Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and one sister. One daughter, Minnie Cates, one grandchild and three great grandchildren also preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby of Cement; daughter, Avon Johnson of Tuttle; daughter, Gayla Hunter of Cement; son, Bill Holmes of Choctaw; son, Phil Holmes of Cement; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren.

Services for William Loyd "Blackie" Holmes, 83, of Cement were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 26, in the Cement Pentecostal Church with Rev. Alvin Roberts officiating.

William Loyd Holmes was born January 22, 1916 in Verden and Died Tuesday, February 23, 1999 at his home in Cement.

He married Ruby Lee Bridge October 18, 1933 in Lawton. He moved to Cement in 1961 from Cyril. He worked for Philips Petroleum until his retirement in 1979. Mr. Holmes was a member of the Cement Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his parents, William Burton Holmes and Minnie Ellen Holder Holmes; one daughter Minnie Cates, one grandchild, three great grandchildren; four brothers, and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby, of the home, daughter Ayvon Johnson of Tuttle, daughter, Gayla Hunter, Cement; son, Bill Holmes, Choctaw; son, Phil Holmes, Cement; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and five great, great grandchildren.

Burial was in the Laverty Cemetery under direction of the Binyon-Cyril Funeral Home.
