Betty Jean [Stewart] Gilbert
Sept. 27, 1937 - Jan. 18, 2010

Funeral services for Betty Jean Gilbert, 72, of Chickasha will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 21, 2010, in the Laverty Baptist Church with Pastor Mike officiating.

Betty Jean Gilbert was born September 27, 1937, in Laverty, Oklahoma the daughter of Roy and Winnie [Huffman] Stewart. She died January 18, 2010, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

A lifelong resident of Grady County, Betty grew up in the Laverty area and graduated from Pioneer Schools.

She married the love of her life, Ed Gilbert on June 19, 1957, in Chickasha. They have had 52 ½ wonderful years together. This union blessed them with 3 sons: Jim, Jerry and Joe.

Betty has been employed with Shanoan Springs Nursing Home where she worked in housekeeping.

After her retirement, Betty enjoyed being a homemaker, taking great pride in her home and family. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She enjoyed watching western movies and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by both parents; and one son, Jerry Gilbert, in 1993; and one sister, Mary Bolton.Betty leaves behind her husband, Ed Gilbert of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law: Jim and Cathy Gilbert of Yukon and Joe and Kimmi Gilbert of Chickasha; two granddaughters: Stephanie Gilbert of Oklahoma City and Kaylee Gilbert of Chickasha; one grandson, Jordan Gilbert of Chickasha; one sister, Ollie Grover of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; and many extended family and friends.

Interment will be in the Laverty Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
