Leonard Hubert Wells
August 12, 1914 ~ March 8, 1987


Leonard Hubert Wells, 72, died March 8 at the VA hospital, Oklahoma City. He was born August 12, 1914 to Leonard Austin and Ollie Geneva Wells in Indianola, OK.

He married Mattalee Wood on July 15, 1933 at Tuttle.

He joined the army on March 30, 1944 and went to Ft Hood, TX and then served in England, France, Belgium, Germany, Luxemburg, Austria, and Scotland for 11 months. He was awarded the EMAE service ribbon, 3 bronze starts, & a purple heart.

He returned to Tuttle and farmed until 1950.

Mr Wells lived in the Oklahoma City area until 1968, then moved to the Cole community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 3 sons, & 3 grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, a brother, Russell Finley of Iola, TX, a sister, Lucile Lavender of College Station, TX, 3 daughters, Lee Anna & L.D. Taylor of Dibble, Reba & Clarence Corley of Lawton, and Janet & James Atchley of Edmond, 11 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.

Full military service with honors was arranged by Eisenhour funeral home at First Baptist church of Cole, Wednesday, March 11, with burial in Fairlawn cemetery, Tuttle.

Mattalee "Mattie" [Wood] Wells
April 2, 1918 ~ March 15, 2004


Mattalee Wood Wells was born Tuesday, April 2, 1918 in Minco, OK, and passed away Sunday, March 15, 2004 in Chickasha, OK. She grew up in the Minco-Tuttle area alongside her 6 brothers, Eritt, Sam, John, Ollie, Roy, & Jesse, and 3 sisters, Dixie, Sadie, & Irma Dean. Mattalee's family made their living from farming.

She married Leonard Hubert Wells on 7/15/1933. Born unto this union are 3 sons and 3 daughters, the first son, Carroll [born in 1934] did not survive. Carroll is buried in Silver City cemetery. A daughter, Lee Anna was born to them in 1935, a son, Walter Allen in 1938, a son, Jerry Don in 1943 did not survive and is buried in Babyland, Fairview cemetery, Tuttle, then came a daughter, Reba June in 1944, and a daughter, Janett in 1947.

The Wells family lived in Tuttle until 1949, then re-located to the areas of Choctaw, Oklahoma City, Dare, Moore, Yukon, and Blanchard, OK. In 1968, they moved to the Cole area and resided there until 1999, when she moved to Georgia to live with her daughter, Reba.

She returned to Oklahoma and entered the Shanoan Springs Center in Chickasha, where she resided until her passing.

Their daughter, Lee Anna, married L.D. "Pig" Taylor in 1950 nd they presented Hubert & Mattalle with 8 grandchildren, Danny Ray, Carol, Kay, Gary Lee, Terry Wayne, Linda Gayle, Kathy Anne, Roger Lynn, & Cheryl Linette.

Son, Walter, married Edna Mae Booth and presented them with 2 more grandchildren, Robin & Mary Jo.

Daughter, Reba, married Clarence E. Corley in 1962 and presented them with a grandson, James David. Daughter, Janett, married James Arlen Atchley in 1963 and presented them with 3 additional grandchildren, Jessica, who did not survive, Clayton Bradley, & Tonja Danette Atchley.

Mattalee worked the family farm and then she accepted a job through Southwestern Bell, working in the cafeteria, then she took a job at Cattleman's Cafeteria in Capital Hill, then accepted a job with FAA and became cafeteria supervisor, retiring in 1982.

Mattalee was a founding member of the Cole Baptist church and was active serving as Sunday School teacher. Mattalee loved to cook and made wonderful meals and she took food to the elderly and sick people. She enjoyed traveling, visiting relatives, friends & neighbors, making gifts of crafts, quilt-making, crocheting, sewing, canning, & cooking.

Mattalee was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Eritt, Sam, John, Ollie & Roy, sister, Dixie Beaty, sons, Carroll, Jerry, & Walter, and daughter, Janett.

She is survived by sisters, Sadie Carr & husband Bill, and Irma Dean Lee & husband Cletis, brother, Jesse, 2 daughters, Lee Anna Taylor and Reba June Corley & husband Clarence, 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in Tuttle, OK., under direction of Sevier funeral home, with interment in Fairview cemeter, Tuttle.
