Hilbert Vernon Huffine
December 13, 1918 ~ June 14, 2009


Funeral service for Hilbert Vernon Huffine, 90, of LaFeria, Texas, former Tuttle resident, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, June 19, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Tuttle.

Hilbert Vernon Huffine was born December 13, 1918 in Cement, Oklahoma the son of Edd Hinkle and Zona Rebecca [Igo] Huffine.

He died June 14, 2009 in LaFeria, Texas.

Mr. Huffine spent his early life in the community of Cedar Grove, south of Cement with family and many cousins. He finished high school in Cement, Oklahoma and graduated from Central State University.

He married Lucille Bell, November 8, 1940 and began a career as a teacher.

Mr. Huffine was drafted in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army. When the war ended, he was transferred into the Border Patrol where he worked until 1952. He worked as a teacher in Tucker, a coach and teacher in Newcastle and was high school principal in Tuttle. Mr. Huffine was also a farmer.

Mr. Huffine later married Joan Bauer in LaFeria, Texas.

He was preceded in death by: Parents: Edd and Zona Huffine. First wife: Mary Lucille Bell Huffine. 1 daughter: Mary C. Roller. 1 brother: Freeman Finley Huffine. Grandchildren: Eric Scott Word and Kirsten Ann Word.

Survivors include: Wife: Joan Bauer Huffine of LaFeria, TX, 1 son: Jimmy Finley Huffine of Grapevine, TX, 1 daughter: Rebecca L. Ernest and husband, Melvin, of Norman, OK, 1 brother: Jimmy Huffine and wife, Sharon of California, 1 sister: Norma Ruth White of Noble, OK, Grandchildren: Lori Ernest, Phil and Lisa Ernest, Alisha and Joshua Webster, Schon and Sarah Huffine, Josh and Veronica Word, Sister-in-law: Lucille Anna Huffine of Lawton, OK, 8 great grandchildren.

Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Tuttle, under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Mary Lucille Bell Huffine
September 23, 1921 ~ March 17, 1998


Funerl services for Mary Lucille Bell Huffine, 76, of Tuttle, are scheduled for 1:30pm on Friday, March 20, at the First Baptist church of Tuttle, with Rev Rick Goodman officiating.

Mary Lucille Bell was born September 23, 1921 in Cement, OK. She died March 17, 1998 in Norman.

She married Hilbert Huffine on November 8, 1940 in Verden, OK. After marriage, the couple moved to Duncan for 2 years and then lived along the Texas-Mexican border for 10 years. The couple moved to Tuttle in 1952 and lived on a farm there ever since.

She was employed as the Tuttle school secretary for 10 years and also worked as a homemaker and farmer.

Huffine was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, & 1 sister.

She is survived by her husband, Hilbert of Tuttle, 2 daughters, Rebecca Lee Ernest of Norman & Mary Carolyn Roller of Brownsville, TX, 1 son, Jim F. Huffine of Grapevine, TX, & 1 sister Eletha Jessup of Tuttle, and 7 grandchildren & 1 great grandson.

Interment will be in Fairview cemetery under direction of Sevier funeral home in Tuttle.
