Paulene Ida [Bass] Harryman
August 2, 1913 ~ September 18, 2014

Paulene Harryman, age 101, of Newcastle went home to be with her Lord on Thursday September 18, 2014 at her home.

Paulene Ida Harryman was born August 2, 1913 in Washington County, Colorado. She was the 3rd child of 5 children born to Clarence David "C.D." Bass and Cora Ida [Parker] Bass. When Paulene was six weeks old her family moved back to Oklahoma, making their home in Pitcher. At age eight her family made the move to Newcastle where she began her schooling.

She was the Valedictorian of the 1931 Newcastle High School graduating class.

That next year she married the love of her life, Vencil Harryman. They were married on October 10, 1932 in Okla. City. They soon moved to a farm in Newcastle and there they started a family.

For the next 82 years Paulene worked tirelessly as a homemaker, worked on the farm and later with her husband in the Insurance business. As a young married couple, they first worked as sharecroppers, grew a garden, milked cows, raised chickens and sold cream and eggs just to buy groceries.

Years later after their children were grown she and Vencil owned and operated the Harryman Insurance Agency in Newcastle. Vencil sold the insurance and Paulene took care of the bookkeeping.

Over the years Paulene was involved in many activities but was most passionate about her church activities. She was a faithful Christian and active member of the Newcastle First Baptist Church for 89 years. She taught Sunday school for over 66 years, beginning with teaching the youth and later adult women. She remained teaching until after her 100th birthday. She taught vacation bible school, was a member of the WMU. Sang in the church choir for many years and assisted other women of the church with funeral dinners. To Paulene her church and her family were her life.

Some of her hobbies were traveling, camping, quilting and most of all working in her flower gardens. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by: Husband, Vencil; Parents, CD & Cora Bass; 2 Children, Mattie Corene & David Eugene Harryman; 1 Granddaughter, Debbie Scott; 2 Grandsons, Thomas Vencil Harryman & Thomas Keith McDonald; 2 Brothers, Clell Bass and Ernest Bass; 1 Sister, Viola Cox; She is survived by: Three daughters, Willene McDonald of Blanchard, Barbara Garrett of Lawton, Carole Ferguson and husband James "Sonny" of Newcastle; One son, Doug Harryman and wife Kathy of Newcastle; One sister-in-law, Delora Bass of Newcastle. 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren and one on the way. Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, September 22, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Newcastle. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Tuttle. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle.

Memorials may be made to the Newcastle First Bapt. Church, "Living the Vision" building fund.
