Walter B. Wood
August 8, 1919 ~ April 6, 2000


Walter B. Wood is the son of Thomas and Icie Wood of Verden, Oklahoma. He attended school in Verden and was in the military during WWII. Walter married Lasca Franklin in 1943 and had two children, Carla Sue and Thomas Franklin Wood. They later divorced.

He married Dixie Benham from Tell, Texas, in 1954, in Alamogordo, NM. He and Dixie had two children, Walter A. and Shirley Wood. The family moved many times with the military and lived in New Mexico, Texas, Labrador, and Michigan, before retiring from the military and settling in Chickasha, Oklahoma, where they continued living until their death.

Dixie R. [Benham] Wood
March 25, 1920 ~ February 20, 2006


Graveside services for Dixie R. "Nana" Wood, 85, of Chickasha will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2006, in the Fairlawn Cemetery with Benny Mathews officiating.

Dixie R. Wood was born the daughter of Jess Benham and Gladys Tippett Benham on March 25, 1920 in Tell, Texas. She died February 20, 2006 in Chickasha.

Dixie graduated from Childress High School in 1938 and went on to marry Walter B. Wood on June 5, 1954 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. As a loyal and supportive military bride she followed her husband from New Mexico to Texas, all the way to Goosebay Labrador, Canada and Sault Saint Marie, Michigan before finally settling in Chickasha upon his military retirement. During that time she raised two children while enjoying making ceramics and bowling, cooking and caring for her family.

In 1970, she began working for O'Bar Insurance where she stayed for nearly 18 years. A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker she created a warm and conforting home where friends were always welcome.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Snoooks and her beloved husband Walter B. "Woody" Wood.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law: Walter A. and Diana Wood of Littleton, Colorado; daughter and son-in-law: Shirley and Tim Winstone of Chickasha and three grandchildren: Bobby Wood, Ashley Winstone, and Jesse Wood.

Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
