June 14, 1933 ~ April 6, 2002


Funeral service for Rebecca Joan Wilburn, 68, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church.

Rebecca Joan Wilburn was born June 14, 1933, near Minco, Oklahoma, to Milton and Kate (Freeman) Savage, and died Saturday, April 6, 2002, in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Joan attended Minco and Pocasset schools, graduating from Pocasset High School.

She entered the field of business at the age of 17, working in Oklahoma City and Chickasha for almost 40 years. She retired from Sehon and Associates after 30 years as a bookkeeper.

In 1953, she married J. L. Wilburn, and he preceded her in death in 1969.

Mrs. Wilburn had been a member of the First Baptist Church since 1954. She taught Sunday School for almost 20 years and had been active in the Intercessory Prayer Ministry since its inception. Joan was also active in the Home Bound Ministry, Joy Choir and the Women's Missionary Union. Throughout the years as a member of First Baptist Church, she served on the Missions Committee, the Centennial Committee, and the Library Committee.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Survivors include: 3 sons: Steven Wilburn and his wife, Jana M., of Madill, Oklahoma, Randall Wilburn and his wife, Pamela, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Gary Wilburn and his wife, Jana L., of Ponca City, Oklahoma; 2 sisters: Neomi Yates, of Savannah, Georgia, Nevelyn Schmidt, of Oklahoma City; 2 brothers: William Savage and his wife, Pat, of Oklahoma City, Donald Savage and his wife, Carolyn, of Bison, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Prayer Room Ministry.

Funeral services for Rebecca Joan Wilburn, age 68, of Chickasha, Okla., were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at the First Baptist Church of Chickasha. Rev. Johnny Tims officiated, assisted by Rev. Barry Hardin.

The organist was Becky Gordon, and singers were Jamie Killion and the Joy Choir of the First Baptist Church.

Pallbearers were Frank Redman, John Allred, Stan Allred, Scott Savage, Jeff Savage and Dennis Owens.

Interment was in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
