Bertha L. [Cunningham] Walker
March 7, 1914 ~ September 4, 2000


Bertha was born the daughter of Emmett Andrew Cunningham and Mittie A. Jenkins Cunningham on March 7, 1914, in Alex, Grady County, Oklahoma. She died on September 4, 2000, in Lenexa, Kansas.

Mrs. Walker graduated from Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha in 1936.

On July 19, 1937, she married George Melvin Walker in Chickasha.

She taught one year in Beggs, Oklahoma and following her marriage accompanied her husband to Southwestern Baptist Seminary where she graduated in 1940 with a Master of Religious Education degree.

She and her husband pastored churches at Sharon Baptist Church and Eaves City Baptist Church in Oklahoma, Alta Vista and Greensburg churches in Kansas, Las Animas and Pueblo churches in Colorado, Livingston Montana Baptist Church, and Hamburg, Iowa where they retired and moved back to Chickasha on January 1, 1975.

While in Colorado, Mrs. Walker did substitute teaching in several large high schools in Pueblo, becoming a permanent substitute in home economics.

Bertha was very active in church circles and taught Sunday School for many years in the churches that she and her husband pastored. She was also a member of the Kappa Omicron Phi honorary Home Economics Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Melvin Walker of the home; daughter, Virginia Sue White of Angel Camp, California; daughter, Marilyn Coberly of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, Terry White, Deborah White, Matthew Coberly and Lesli Lundquist; great grandchild, Delaney White; sisters, Stella May Grisham of Chickasha and Edna Standridge of Lindsay.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.

Funeral services for 90, are pending with the Ferguson Funeral Home.

Walker was born August 16, 1915 and died May 7, 2005.

Sarah Pauline [Nabors] Walker
August 16, 1915 ~ May 7, 2005


Pauline was born August 16, 1915 in Piedmont, Alabama to Walter Victor Nabors and Ethel Mae High Nabors. She passed away after a lengthy illness, May 7, 2005.

She graduated from OCW [Oklahoma College for Women] in 1937 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She received her Masters degree in English Literature from OU in 1953.

She first taught school in Cordel, Oklahoma where she met and married Alfred L. Walker, May 18, 1940.

Pauline and Alfred moved to Verden, Oklahoma in 1942 where she taught school and he was a cattle rancher and farmer until they moved to Chickasha in 1962. Pauline taught 2nd grade at Northwest Elementary School and in 1969 taught English & History at the Chickasha Intermediate School until her retirement in 1977.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Verden from 1942 to 1962, moving her membership to the First Baptist Church of Chickasha. She was also a member of AAUW (American Auxiliary of University Women.

She moved to Oklahoma City in 1998 where she resided until her death Saturday, May 7, 2005.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alfred and an infant son, Alfred L. Walker, Jr., two sisters: Bobby Andersona and Patricia Morren; and one brother, John Nabors.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Bob Windsor of OKC, three grandchildren: Eric and Amy Windsor, Brock and Jai Windsor and Alexis Windsor, two great grandchildren: Ashlee and Quinteen, five sisters: Nan Reynolds, Dorothy Lee, Elizabeth Madison, Jean Madison and Faye Von Lossow; one brother, Bill Nabors, and many nieces and nephews.

Services are Thursday, May 12, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with the commital at Fairlawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Ballet Oklahoma, 7421 N. Classen Boulevard, Oklahoma City, OK 73116.

Funeral services for Sarah Pauline Walker, 89, of Chickasha will be held Thursday, May 12, 2005, at 2 p.m., in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.

Sarah Pauline Nabors Walker was born August 16, 1915, in Piedmont, Alabama. She died Saturday May 7, 2005, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
