Jerry Bert Barnes
June 27, 1952 ~ October 5, 2007

Jerry Bert Barnes, 55 of Rush springs, OK, passed from this life on Friday, October 5, 2007 to ride in the big rodeo in the sky.

Jerry was born on June 27, 1952 to Ted and Elvada "Babe" [Tatum] Barnes in Mangum, Oklahoma.

He began to ride bulls at an early age and this was to be his life's passion. Jerry grew up in the Bailey area and attended schools at Bray where he graduated in 1970. After high school he attended Murray State College and Southeastern Oklahoma State University on a rodeo scholarship and then went on to Oklahoma State University.

Jerry married Patricia Kay Eden in Ardmore, Oklahoma on Aug. 18, 1972.

After college Jerry and Patricia made their home in Ardmore where he would live for the next 15 years.

During his life Jerry had many jobs, which allowed him to travel the world. He was a customs agent in Alaska, owned his own Trucking business, worked for Halliburton and he also owned Altas Oil Tools, just to name a few. He loved to travel and hated being in one spot for too long. Jerry moved back to Rush Springs in 1991 and made it his permanent residence.

Jerry was a history buff and enjoyed visiting all the historical locations around the country, and he loved to read books about the civil war. He also loved to watch Jeopardy and usually knew all the answers to all the questions.

Jerry loved his family and managed to spoil his grandchildren every chance he could. His grandchildren were his world and he loved to take them to the park and swing them for hours.

Jerry was a kind and generous man who was always willing to share what he had with others. He will be greatly missed.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Ted Barnes, a niece Laura Fitzgerald.

He is survived by his mother Elvada Tecumseh of Marlow, his girlfriend Mary of the home, one daughter Natalie and husband Jerome Jones of Rush Springs, one son Jacob Barnes and wife Judy of Chickasha, six grandchildren, Kaytie, Dillon, Cord, Cody, Kita and Quinton. Two brothers Fred Fitzgerald and wife Becky of Rush Springs and Ronnie Barnes of Bonham, Texas, a host of nieces and nephews. Jerry was also survived by a life's long collection of friends.

Pallbearers are Howard Huey, George Scott, Billy Gallaway, Brad Pierce, Robert Littral and Stanley Davis. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Chaffin, Curtis Parsley, Robert Fitzgerald, Jody Patterson, Rick Johns, Jeff Spivey and Cody Dillavou.

Services will be on Tuesday, Oct. 9th at the Rush Springs First Assembly of God at 10:30 am with Ron Smith, Fred Fitzgerald and Ronnie Barnes officiating.

Burial will be in the Bailey Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs.
