Richard Lewis Barker
December 21, 1950 ~ December 4, 2020


Graveside services for Richard Lewis Barker, 69, of Amber, will be held in Bailey Cemetery, located in Bray, Oklahoma.

Richard Lewis Barker was born in Marlow, Oklahoma on December 21, 1950 to Dud Lewis Barker and Wanda Lou [Crawford] Barker. He died on December 4, 2020 at his home in Amber, Oklahoma.

Richard grew up in Marlow until around junior high age when his family moved to Perryton, Texas. He graduated from Perryton High School in 1968 then went to college at OU, graduating with a BA in Education. He later got his Master’s in Education Administration from OCU.

He taught and coached volleyball in several schools throughout Oklahoma, including Amber, and in Colorado. He began coaching high school volleyball and then moved into college level, most recently at USAO.

In his retirement Richard was excited about just beginning his own leatherworking business. He was a humble and private person and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by both parents.

Survivors include his sister Brenda McPherson of Ballinger, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law Myron and Jodi Halford of Ballinger, Texas and Darren and Leanne Halford of Fredericksburg, Texas; fellow coaches and previous students within his volleyball family.

Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home, Chickasha, Oklahoma.
