William R. "Bill" Champlin
August 25, 1938 ~ October 11, 2001


William R. "Bill" Champlin died Tuesday in an Oklahoma City hospital. The Macomb resident was 63.

He was born August 25, 1938, in Columbus, Kan., to Billy Eugene Champlin and Ruth [Burr] Champlin. He attended school in Miami, Okla.

He was a journeyman electrician for more than 40 years, having worked for several years for Oklahoma Baptist University. He also was a deputy sheriff for several Pottawatomie County sheriffs and was commissioned as an officer with the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Police.

He was married in 1959 in Gainesville, Texas, to Joyce Ridgeway, who died April 21, 1995.

Champlin and Linda Lam Moore were wed July 15, 1995, in Gainesville.

Champlin joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17 and served for eight years.

He was a member of the Electricians Union Local 1141 of Oklahoma City, the Masonic Lodge, Indian Temple Shrine, and was a lifetime member of the VFW.

He had lived in Macomb since 1962.

Also preceding him in death were his parents and one step-grandson, B.J. Hesket.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Dawn Champlin of Shawnee; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Betty and Roger Fisher of Wisconsin, Patricia Harrington of Macomb, Sharon Whitlock of Chandler, Sandra and James Strauss of Okmulgee, Carol and Billy Hesket of Ponca City and Tonya and Jason Lemaster of Midwest City; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Sharon Champlin of Broken Arrow and Michael and Selma Champlin of Miami; a sister-in-law, Sheila Norris of Elk City; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don Lam of Maud, Larry and Pat Lam of Shawnee and Bill and Vickie Merrick of Pampa, Texas; 24 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, of Florida.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev James Adams will officiate. Burial will be at Whitebead Cemetery, near Pauls Valley.
