James Maston "Slim" Randol
July 16, 1921 ~ October 6, 2005


Funeral services for James "Slim" Randol, 84, of Purcell were held Oct. 10, 2005 at Purcell First Baptist Church with Dr. Patrick Mead and the Rev. Anthony Randol officiating. Interment was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mr. Randol died October 6, 2005 at Norman Regional Hospital.

He was born July 16, 1921 in Whitebead, near Pauls Valley, the youngest of seven children of George M. Randol and Bessie Cowley Randol. He was reared on a farm and attended Whitebead School. After he finished school, he began working in Oklahoma City for an airplane company.

Mr. Randol joined the U.S. Army Corp in 1941 and was stationed in Pampa, Texas, for four years. During his time in the service, he worked as an airplane mechanic.

While still in the service, he married Modine L. Potter in Pauls Valley March 30, 1944. They lived in Pampa for 1-1/2 years before returning to Pauls Valley after he was honorably discharged.

He began working in the oilfield for Republic National Gas Company where he worked for 15-1/2 years. They moved to California for a short time then returned to Oklahoma where they lived in Moore. After living there five years, they moved to Norman where they lived for five years.

After they had returned from California, Mr. Randol worked as a self-employed contract pumper in the oilfield. He moved his family to a farm in Purcell in 1976 and retired from the oilfield in 1991.

Mr. Randol was a member of the Purcell First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Robert, William "Tots," Horace, Harold and Howard and one sister, Bernyce.

Survivors include his wife, Modine, of the home; two sons, Jim Randol and his wife, Grace, and Ken Randol and his wife, Beverly, all of Purcell; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Shannon Holder, Todd Webb, Jimmy Randol, Danny Randol, Bennie Boren and Jim Randol.

Honorary pallbearers were George Stone, Raymond Landsdale, Coleman Hedrick and Tom Idleman.

Memorials may be made to the Purcell First Baptist Church Building Fund.
