Thomas Jerrell McCarty
May 5, 1929 ~ July 21, 2007


Funeral service for Thomas Jerrell McCarty, age 78, of Chickasha will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at the Southern Oaks Church of Christ. Steve Parker will officiate and Jim Sheerer will assist.

Interment will follow at 4 p.m. at the Elmore City Cemetery in Elmore City, Oklahoma.

Thomas Jerrell McCarty was born the son of Jim McCarty and Corda Barbee McCarty on May 5, 1929, in Pernell, Oklahoma. He died on July 21, 2007, in Chickasha.

Jerrell attended Red Top one room school through the 4th grade. He then attended 5th through the 12th grade at Pernell, graduating from Pernell High School in 1947. After graduation, Jerrell worked for Skelly Oil Company, in Velma, Oklahoma. On June 18, 1954, Jerrell married Floyce Yvonne Helvey, in Pernell, Oklahoma. In 1956, he began working for the Rock Island Oil Company, later known as Koch Industries of Wichita, Kansas. He was transferred to Sedan, Kansas in 1958, where he retired from Koch Industries in 1990 after 35 years of service.

While living in Sedan, Jerrell owned the J and J Western Store for several years and served on the City Council. He was also a member of the Sedan Lion's Club, Sedan Round Up Club, and the Jayhawkers' Sam's RV Club. Jerrell's hobbies were fishing, hunting, wood working, reading, and gardening. Roses were his specialty. Jerrell loved going on bus tours, visiting and meeting people, and making new friends. He enjoyed telling stories and singing songs to his grandchildren, and anyone else who would listen.

Jerrell and Yvonne moved to Chickasha in September of 2002, after spending 44 years in Sedan, Kansas. Jerrell became a Christian at the age of 15, and was a member of Southern Oaks Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Hazel and Lena, and one brother, Wayne.

Survivors include: Wife: Yvonne McCarty of the home; Daughter & Husband: Karen & Randy Davis of Copan, Ok; Daughter & Husband: Mary Ann & Jerry McLemore of Ninnekah; Sister: Jane Pemberton of Duncan, Ok; Granddaughter: Shelly McLemore of Shawnee, Ok; Granddaughter & Husband: Ashley & Sam Rayburn of Santa Clara, California; Grandson: Kyle Davis of Chickasha; Granddaughter: Kelly Davis of Copan, Ok; Chance & Chad McLemore of Ninnekah; Great- Grandsons: Ty & Cade Rayburn of Santa Clara, California.
