Zion Lutheran Cemetery



Funeral service for Gladys Hays, 72, of Enid, Okla., will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Kenneth Wade officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Fairmont, under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. A visitation for friends and family will be 5-7 p.m. today at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Gladys was born Sept. 29, 1936, in Fairmont, Okla., the daughter of Herman and Louise Helberg Durheim and passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at her home after a short illness. She grew up in the Fairmont area and attended early school in Fairmont and then graduated from Garber High School with the class of 1954, being the president of her senior class. While in school, she was active in basketball, cheerleading and softball.

After graduation, she moved to Enid, Okla., and married Nathan "Worry" Hays on July 28, 1957, where they lived all of her life. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and sang in the church choir for many years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and the softball tournaments thro-ughout the middle of the United States. She also enjoyed trips to Eufaula and Tenkiller lakes. She also liked to read a good book and go see movies. After high school, she went to work for Champlin Oil Co. and remained there as a legal secretary for 30 years until they closed. She then worked for 101 Energy for 15 years, and at the time of her death, she was employed by Central Machine & Tool for the past 11 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Louise Durheim; a sister, Valeta Click; an infant sister, Adele; and brothers-in-law, Thurman Hayes and Floyd Campbell.

She is survived by her husband, Worry, of the home; daughter, Kelli Hays of Edmond; two grandchildren, Torin Foster and Cade Foster; a brother, Leroy Durheim of Enid; and a sister, Alleyne Durheim Smith of Fort Worth, Texas. Also, seven brothers-in-law and their spouses, Bob and Betty Hays of Park Hill, Okla., Joe and Nancy Hays of Spokane, Wash., Guy and Sue Hays of Enid, Larry and Debbie Hays of Hennessey, Okla., Marvin and Ann Hays of Edmond, Okla., Terry and Ladona Hays of Garber, Okla., and Garry Hays of Ponca City, Okla. Also, five sisters-in-law and their spouses, Madeline and Walt Unruh of Athens, Texas, Colleen and Everett Evans of Fayetteville, Ark., Madonna Campbell of Enid, Velma and Vernon Hayes of Apple Valley, Calif., and Jonna and Frank Miramontes of Anaheim, Calif., and Bernita Hays of Kingfisher, Okla.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gladys' memory to St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
