Zion Lutheran Cemetery


April 10, 1925 - November 17, 2020

A Celebration of Life Service for Milton R. Eggers, age 95, of Fairmont, will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2020, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fairmont with Rev. Mark Blakeman officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Ladusua-Evans Funeral Home.

Milton Raymond Eggers was born to Helene (Hedemann) and Christian Martin (CM) Eggers on the family farm on April 10, 1925. He died in the Lord on Nov. 17, 2020, at St. Mary's Hospital. He graduated from Garber High School in 1943. Milton proudly served his country during WWII with the 1st Marine Division in the battle for Okinawa, where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart.

He married Leola (Lee) Lemke at Zion Lutheran Church on March 6, 1959, and they made their home on the family farm near Fairmont where he farmed, raised his family, and lived until his death. When not farming he was a carpenter and helped build many homes in Garfield County. Milton was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairmont and served the church in many ways, as a member and serving on the church council as secretary and trustee for many years. He also served many years on the Fairmont Co-op Board.

Milton is survived by his son John and wife Lara of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; son Joel and wife Vicki of Fairmont; daughter Ann and husband Ted Williams of Coppell, Texas; and daughter-in-law Janine Eggers of Manhattan, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren: and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lee, son James, and his brother and three sisters.

Memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Church Fairmont and to LCMS Seminary Fund with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
