Zion Lutheran Cemetery


January 16, 1924 - September 16, 2018

Funeral services for Ruby Martha (Kahmeyer) Dirks, age 94, of Lahoma, are 2:00 pm, Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Zion Lutheran Church of Lahoma with Reverend Martin Herzberg to officiate. Burial will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Ruby Martha Dirks passed away Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the age of 94 at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her loving family. Ruby was born January 16, 1924 in Isabel, Kansas, to Ernest and Malinda (Hellman) Kahmeyer, the second of 10 children. She graduated from Isabel High School in 1941 and then attended Pratt Junior College in Pratt, Kansas. She married Roland Lee Dirks August 27, 1942, in Pratt, Kansas. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Nashville, Kansas. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lahoma, Oklahoma. Together with her husband, they owned and operated Dirks Service Company from 1970 until her retirement in 1986. After her retirement she enjoyed operating the Craft House in Lahoma with her daughter Marcia until its closing in 2011.

Ruby is survived by her son Darrell, of Casper, Wyoming; her daughter, Marcia and husband Virgil (JR) Gose, of Lahoma; and daughter-in-law Nancy Dirks, of Omaha, Nebraska. Other survivors include sisters Arleen Pirkey and Doris (Bud) Allender, of Wichita, Kansas; Linda Sue Brown, of Rosedale, Indiana; sisters-in-law Harriette Kahmeyer of Wichita, and Betty Dirks, of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; brothers-in-law Glen Kirks and Kenneth Larkin of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and family members.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roland Dirks; sons Roland Lee Dirks, Jr. (Sonny) and William (Bill) Dirks; granddaughter Dee Dee Dirks; sisters Imogene Wiske, Verna Klusman, Eunice Winter, Leona Lechner, Francis Larkin, and brother, Dale Kahmeyer.

Memorials in Rubys name may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Hospice Circle of Love with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
