White Cemetery


Opal Vivian Williams, the fourth child of Samuel and Marion Deeds, was born on the family homestead near Garber on May 30, 1916. She passed peacefully on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, in Enid at the age of 97 years.

She attended Home Valley Country School and graduated from Garber High School in 1934.

Opal and George W. Williams were united in marriage Nov. 10, 1936, at the Garber Baptist Church parsonage.

They made their home on the Joe and Laura Belle (Beeson) Williams family homestead, near Hunter.

Opal was a homemaker. Like her husband, she loved the outdoors and the land. They also enjoyed the various school sports activities supporting first their children, and then grandchildren.

They were supporting fans of the American Legion baseball team and Opal was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. She was a member of Hunter United Methodist Church.

Her children are Monty Joe Williams, Enid; Bruce Williams and wife Suellen, Hunter; Doris Swingle and husband Roger, Grand Junction, Colo., and Betty Williams, Hunter.

She has seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband, George in 2004; her parents; two brothers, Duard and Ernie; and two sisters, Erma Roberts and Bernice Vencl.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Hunter Christian Church, with Brian Meyer officiating. Burial will be in White Cemetery in Hunter.

Memorials may be given to Hunter Christian Church or Oklahoma Medical Research, heart division, through Wilson Funeral Home of Pond Creek, Okla.
