OBITUARY, Fernandes Phipps was born in Raleigh Co., W.V., May 5th, 1851, died in Garfield co., Okla., July 4th, 1905, aged 54 years, one month and 29 days.

When a small boy, his mother was left a widow with a family of small children. Not being able to support all of them, he made his home with his uncle. He was married to Arabella Pack November 15th, 1877, and in 1879, he moved with his wife to western Kansas and settled on a claim. The country proved to be so dry and with no means of support, he abandoned his claim and moved to McPherson Co., Kans., and settled on a farm. While here, four children were born, all girls. One died when only 2 or 3 years old. In 1901, with his wife and three daughters, he moved to Garfield Co., Okla., and settled on a farm. Here his three daughters were married.

In September 1904, he went back to West Virginia to visit his mother who was quite old and feeble and who has since died. He came back in October but was in poor health. About Christmas he was taken very sick and medical aid was summoned and all possible was done to relieve him but of no avail.

For the past two years he was confined to his bed and bore his sickness with great patience. He never murmured or complained about anything that was done for him. He leaves a wife and three daughters to mourn his loss who have the sympathy of Hunter and community.
