A Vietnam veteran from the Waukomis-Pioneer community died early Friday in the smoke filled bedroom of a Topeka Veterans Hospital.
He was Danny Earl Vanderwork, who was a patient at the Topeka Veterans Hospital.

Topeka fire inspector Bob Oyler said the fire started from a lighted cigarette in Vanderwork's bed.

Funeral services for Vanderwork will be at 2 p.m. Sunday on the Church of Christ at Eighth and Maine. Jack Henry, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the Waukomis Cemetery with Ladusau-Evans in charge of arrangments.
Vanderwork was born Sept. 23, 1948 in Enid and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Vanderwork graduated from Pioneer High School in 1966 and attended Several universitys and served in the US Army

In addition to his parents he is survived by three sisters, Shari of the home, Mrs. Max , Ramona Dodson of Edmond; and Mrs. Don , Nancy Friesen of Fairviewand his materal grandmotherm Mrs. Edd Plew of Altus.
