Waukomis Cemetery


The funeral for Kenneth Dean Swanson, 87, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at First Assembly of God Church. The Revs. Dan Barrick and Marilyn Murray will officiate. Burial will be in Waukomis Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Army Honor Guard. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.

He was born Nov. 25, 1922, in Walters to George Andrew and Sarah Elizabeth Shelley Swanson and died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at his home in Enid.

He grew up in Walters, Empire and Duncan. He served with the Army in the Antitank Infantry, Platoon 289, 8th Division during World War II in the European Theatre, earning the Purple Heart.

He married Martha Becker Nov. 19, 1965, in Kingfisher. They made their home in Enid. He worked for various oil companies as a tool pusher and drilling superintendent and consultant. He attended First Assembly of God Church.

Surviving are his wife, Martha, of the home; four daughters, Ashley Swanson and Barbara Tabor, both of Enid, Gayla Norris of Sullivan, Ill., and Debra Fulton of Waukomis ; one son, James Hill of Southhill, Wash.; two sisters, Gertrude Crawford and Patsy Delores Vincent of Ramona; 18 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, one sister and six brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Oklahoma Medical Re-search Foundation, heart or cancer division.
