Recent Deaths
Funeral services for Phyllis M. Hunter, 82, will be today at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Pioneer. The Reverend Tommy Donaldson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Waukomis Cemetery. Arrange-ments are under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home
Phyllis was born February 19, 1924, in Waukomis to Samuel and Mildred Manke Brinker and passed away Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Integris Bass Bptist Health Center.
Phyllis was a graduate of Waukomis High School. In 1943, she married James Hunter in Enid. The couple made their home on a farm in the Pioneer area.
She worked at Woolco and then in advertising at the Enid Morning News. Later she was a caregiver for families in the Pioneer area.
Phyllis was a exceptional artist, a cake decorator, a weaver of words and a crossword puzzler. Her days were filled with doing good deeds for others, always willing to help at a moment's notice.
Phyllis is survived by two daughters, Susan Powell and her husband Jim of Cedar Vale, KS, Michelle Beckner and her husband Rox of Hennessey; two sons, Bob Hunter of Waukomis and Michael Hunter and his wife Chreyl of Great Falls, VA; one sister, Gladys Price of Nampa, Idaho; a sister-in-law, Ruby Hunter of Enid; eight grandchildren, Jeff Powell of Cedar Vale, KS, Andrea Wilson of Blue Springs, MO, Tanner and Tessa Beckner of Hennessey, Debbie Wilczek of Enid, Laura Finley of Oklahoma City, Barrett and Brock Hunter of Great Falls, VA; five great-grandchildren, Megan and Zach Wilson, Kelsey, Hayden and Ethan Powell. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, James. Memorials may be made through Henninger-Allen Funeral Home to Clearview Christian Camp at Drummond, and Pioneer Pleasantvale School library
