Mr. John H. Gunsley, after almost reaching the good old age of four score years, quietly passed away October 5th, 1909, at the home of his brother-in-law, Mr. Joseph Blair, six miles southwest of Waukomis, Okla. He was born in Sheffield, England, November 19, 1830. At the age of six years, he came with his parents to Canada. At the early age of 9 years, he was permitted to go with his uncle who had charge of a ship, and there the boy learned to be a sailor and was in active service for nearly a half century and for nineteen years after his marriage. He married Miss Elmira Blair at Rosendale, Wis., June 30, 1868. To this union six children were born, one of his daughters has gone before, five survive him: Mrs. Mary Gerish of Cal.; Mr. John Gunsley of Miles City, Mont.; Miss Viola Wood of Wis.; Mrs. Bertha Jewell, Wis.; and Miss Edith Gunsley, who with her mother and a nephew, Mr. M. Cornell, waited on her father until death. Mr. Gunsley was a good husband, a kind father, and a loyal American citizen.
