C.Y. Caldwell Dead

C.Y. Caldwell, better known as "Daddy," died at his home northeast of town yesterday afternoon at 2:30. Funeral services will be held at the house this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial at Waukomis cemetery. He leaves a wife, three sons, Fred, Bob, and Charles, and two granddaughters. He was 73, and had been an invalid for about six years.

OBITUARY

Charles Young Caldwell was born Feb. 17, 1846, in Perry, Georgia. He spent his boyhood days in Georgia and in Alabama with his grandfather. He moved to Philadelphia, Tenn., when he was 18 years of age. He served in the Confederate army under General Robert E. Lee in the last years of the Civil War, and was at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, when Lee surrendered.

He was married to Sidney Elizabeth Berry, Nov. 5, 1868. To this union were born six children, Frank, Minnie, Mattie, Charles, Robert and Fred. The girls died when very young, and Frank in his young manhood. The family moved to Oklahoma in Sept., 1901.

He was converted and joined the Methodist church in 1886. After coming west the old church ties were broken some, but he was never satisfied and felt the need of renewal. Some years ago he asked quite a few of the Christian neighbors to come and pray with him. After that he was thoroughly satisfied and would quote Scripture and pray as long as he could talk. He enjoyed nothing so much as talking of salvation and having his wife read the Bible with him.

Besides the wife, he leaves three sons, two granddaughters, two sisters in Florida, one brother in Georgia, one in Tennessee and one in Canada. He was stricken with paralysis nearly eight years ago, and he became entirely helpless. He died July 31, 1918, aged 72 years, 5 months, and 14 days.

The funeral services were held on August 1st at 3 p.m. at the home four miles northeast of Drummond, Rev. J.W. Foster officiating, assisted by Rev. Spurgeon. The interment was at Waukomis.
