John O. Grimes died Sunday night December 13th about 12 o'clock in the hospital at Enid, where he had been taken to undergo an operation for appendicitis. The operation was performed but he never rallied from the ordeal.
He was born in Johnson County, Missouri, February 22nd, 1879. At the age of 12 his parents moved to Kansas and resided there about 16 years, and moved from there to Oklahoma seventeen years ago. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, W.L. Grimes of Lahoma, Okla.; and S.G. Grimes of Harper Co., Okla.; and four sisters, Mrs. M. Townsend of Ellis Co., Okla.; Mrs. Ida Newton, Kas.; Mrs. Florence Green, Harper Co., Okla.; and Mrs. Clara Owens of Goodman, Mo.
He was a member of the M.E. church of Lahoma, having joined about a year ago, and was a faithful member and regular attendant of the church and its services until his death. The funeral ceremony was conducted from the home of his brother, W.L. Grimes three miles south of Lahoma by his pastor, Rev. J.M. Sutton. A large number of friends and neighbors were in attendance and manifested deep and genuine sympathy for the bereaved in this sad hour, thus silently and surely declaring that Brother Grimes was highly respected and appreciated as a man, a neighbor, a friend and a Christian.
