During World War II, he served his country by working on public works projects as a member of the Civilian Conservation Core.

Menno did route work until 1963, when he became the first employee of Kernview Mental Hospital. He was named Employee of the Year in 1970 and retired from Kernview in 1983.
Before age and Parkinson's took their toll, Menno took joy in working in his yard, growing flowers, fruits, nuts, vegetables, and berries. He and Rosie had Menno and Rosie's Flowers for
many years. Menno and Rosie were a regular fixture at the Farmer's Market every Saturday for ten
years.
Menno is survived by his wife, Rosie; three children, Jonathan Regier and his wife, Susan, Rosalyn Malamma and her husband, Kevin, and Rebecca Wilkinson and her husband, Dan; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren, Jonathan Malamma, wife, Lydia, and daughters, Morgan and Leyla; Jordan Scritchfield and husband, Cole; Joel Malamma; Jesse Wilkinson, wife, Courtney, and son, Caedmon; Heidi Wilkinson; and Marc Regier.
