ROBERT B. PARK
1924 - 2005
Longtime civic leader and Chickasha attorney Robert B. Park died September 9 following a brief battle with cancer.
Robert was born November 21, 1924 in Hayward, OK. The son of a railroad dispatcher, Robert and
his family spent early years in many northern Oklahoma communities. He graduated from Hunter High School and after completion of his military service, Robert returned to the University of
Oklahoma, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1949. He shortly moved to Chickasha,
which became his home for the rest of his life.
During WW II, he served in the U.S. Navy on a sub-chaser in the Pacific Theater. After the War,
Robert joined the Army Reserve, eventually becoming a member of its Judge Advocate General Corps. He retired as a JAG officer with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Robert joined the firm of Bailey and Hammerly in Chickasha, staying with the partnership for more
than fifty years. The firm, in existence prior to statehood, still practices with current
partners under the name Park, Nelson, Caywood, Jones.
Robert was admitted to practice before the State and Federal Courts in Oklahoma, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver, and the United States Supreme Court, as well as the U.S. Court of Military Appeals and the U.S. Court of Claims. He was a Life Fellow of the Oklahoma Bar
Association for more than fifty years, serving on its Board of Governors and as Vice President of
the OBA.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and life member of the American Business Club. He recently served as a volunteer for Mobile Meals for more than ten years. He was a Director of the First National Bank and Trust Company and First Federal Savings and Loan Association, both in Chickasha, and served as a director of Sooners Girl Scout Council, being elected its President twice. He also was appointed a Regent of Oklahoma College for Women (now USAO).
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Virginia, and daughter Jane. He is
survived by sister Hope Ogden, Oklahoma City; wife Irene K. Park, son Charles, his wife Jan and
granddaughters Marlowe and Mackenzie, all of Chickasha; by son-in-law Michael Jerner and
granddaughter Lauren, Abilene, TX; and granddaughter Marissa Sparks, Blanchard. Other survivors
include step-children Christine Rose, Dallas; Pamela McGee, Pauls Valley, Cynthia Hardin and
husband Rob, The Woodlands, TX; Susan Gold, Oklahoma City; William H. Rose III, Norman; and
stepgrandchildren Jacob McGee, Samantha and Harrison Hardin.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday September 11 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church,
Chickasha. Private commitment service under the direction of McRay Funeral Home will be at
Fairlawn Cemetery. Rather than flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made
to Mobile Meals of Chickasha, in care of Frances A. Doak, 3214 Brookridge Drive.
