Graveside funeral services will be held at Wasco Memorial Park on Friday, September 26, 2003, at 2 p.m. for L. J. Hutson, age 76, of Wasco who passed away on September 24, 2003, in Shafter. Interment will follow. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 25, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Peters Funeral Home Chapel.
L. J. was born March 2, 1927, the son of Jack and Ada Hutson, in Enid, Oklahoma. He was raised in Enid, OK, where he attended the local grammar and high school. He came to Wasco in 1945. He married Nancy Rogers on June 16, 1960. He worked for the United States Postal Service as letter carrier from 1951 to 1971 and then became Postmaster, retiring in 1982. He enjoyed playing golf and poker with his poker buddies. He coached and sponsored a Little League team, belonged to the National Association of Post Masters from 1971 - 1982 and was a member of Wasco Elks Lodge #2419 for 22 years.
L. J. is survived by his wife, Nancy of Wasco; brother, Dwayne Hutson and wife, Pat of Wasco; sisters, Pauline William son of Paris, TX and Margie Burnes of Springfield, VA; sister-in-law, Norma Holdener of Bakersfield; brothers-in-law, Tom and Leroy Rogers of Bakersfield; nieces, Lise Carter of Bakersfield, Liz Gerber of Wasco, Patricia Hordan of Kent, WA and numerous other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Colonel Lowell R. Hutson.
