Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Robison Chapel of the Plains at First Christian Church with the Rev. James Cobb, senior minister, and the Rev. Marvin James, minister of Family Life, officiating. A second service will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in First Christian Church in Nash, Okla., with the Rev. Garth Blake, senior minister, officiating. Burial will be in New Home Cemetery in Nash. Local arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Amarillo, 2820 Virginia Circle. Other arrangements are by Ladasau-Evans Funeral Home of Enid.

Mr. Logsdon was born on the family farm near Nash on Jan. 22, 1917. He graduated from Nash High School in 1935 and Northwestern State College (now university) in Alva, Okla., in 1940 with a bachelor of science degree.

He intended to enter a teaching career but was drafted into the Army in 1941, serving until 1946 as a medical administrative corps officer. He had tours in Okinawa and the Pacific Theatre. He married Virginia Leigh West on June 7, 1944, in El Paso.

After his discharge, he and his wife and son relocated to North Carolina where he worked in veterans training for the State Board of Education. He returned to Texas and entered Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol School graduating in April 1951. He began a 31-year career as a Texas Highway Patrolman and later as a Texas Governor's Security Officer.

He and his wife moved to Amarillo in 1984 to be near their grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of Church of the Brethren and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Palo Duro Masonic Lodge No. 1239, Ben Hur Shrine and an affiliated past patron of Amarillo Chapter 787, Order of the Eastern Star.

He was respected by his friends and loved by his family. He was a worthy member of the "greatest generation," a quiet hero who will be missed but not forgotten.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee Roy Jr. and John; and a sister, Juanita.

Survivors include his wife; a son, John Logsdon and wife, Becky; five grandchildren, Matthew Logsdon and wife, Darcie, and Bethany Logsdon, all of Nashville, Tenn., Mark Logsdon and wife, Ashley, of Amarillo, and Joseph Logsdon and Jeremy Logsdon, both of Dallas; a great-grandson, Owen Logsdon of Nashville; and two sisters, Bess Shriver of Enid, Okla., and Frances Hite of Cherryvale, Kan.

The family suggests memorials be to First Christian Church, 3001 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, TX 79109.
