Body of Widely Noted State Ranchman Lays in State At Ponca City Auditorium-Many Steam by
Known Everywhere
Plane Flown By Air Mail Pilot Provides Escort For Funeral Procession "To Burial Grounds
Thousands paid final respect to Colonel George L. Miller here today. Colonel Miller, one of the owners of the 101 Ranch was killed Saturday morning in an automobile accident.
The body lay in state at the ranch "White House" from 9 until 12 o'clock and at the city auditorium for an hour preceding the funeral services, which began at 2 o'clock
A steady steam of persons, from all walks of life, passed before the bier.
Before Casket
At the city auditorium Chief Cazy Ear of the Ponca Indians and two other tribesmen spent some time before the casket.
Services at the auditorium were conducted by the Rev. J. Frank Saunders pastor of the Ponca City Christian church.
Felix Duvall, Ponca City lawyer, delivered a eulogy, in which the praised the qualities of Colonel Miller's friendship.
The colonel, Duvall pointed out, had friends in every state in the Union and in several foreign countries
Aerial Escort
A plan flown by Earl Rockwood pilot for the national air transport, was to provide an aerial escort for the funeral procession as it moved from the auditorium to the Ponca City cemetery.
Colonel Miller was the first passenger carried from Kansas City to Ponca City by the N. A. T. when it established a passenger line between the two points in 1927
Richard Dobie was the pilot.
