Ethel Tate Young

The funeral for Ethel Tate Young, 77, will be at 2 PM Saturday at Anderson – King Funeral Home. Dr. Richard Duckworth, pastor of Willow Road Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

She was born June 25, 1915, in Tucamcari, New Mexico, to Eric and Leatha Hill Pearson and died Wednesday, March 10, 1993, at Bryant Nursing Center, Edmond. She had spent most of her life in Arkansas and Oklahoma and attended schools in both states. After graduating from high school, she worked as a model for Charis Inc. of Canada. Later she certified at Kansas University Medical School in dietetics. She also worked for George E. Failing Cafeteria as manager as well as for many years as a ward clerk at St. Mary's Hospital.

After her marriage to James A. Tate, they owned and operated Singer Sewing Centers in Rogers and Duncanville, Arkansas. He died in 1961.

In 1972, she married James R. Young. They lived in Enid. He died in 1992. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Enid, Enid Chapter 36 of the Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge 21 and was a charter member of Arkoma Home Extension Club and past regional director of Sarah Coventry.

Surviving are one daughter, Leatha Tate of Edmond; one brother, Raymond Pearson of Springdale, Arkansas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by one son and one sister.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Alzheimer's Program.
