Wilbur THOMPSON

Memorial Park Cemetery

Wilbur received a call from God on June 8, 2012. He accepted that long-awaited call, and he is in Heaven now with the Love of His Life, Edna.

The family will receive friends at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2012. Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Rev. Gerald Roggow will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Wilbur was born August 2, 1924, in Jet, Oklahoma, to William and Reta Thompson. They later moved to Goltry, Oklahoma. In 1942, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served in World War II. After being discharged in 1947, he returned to Enid, Oklahoma. On April 18, 1948, Edna and he were united in marriage. To this union, they had two daughters, Sonja and Kay, and one son, Wilbur Jr., who was stillborn.

Wilbur worked at several different jobs until he found his true calling, which was being a tile setter, which he did for several years in the Enid area. In 1966, Wilbur went to work for Enid Public Schools, where he served as a custodian and worked in the warehouse and as a carpenter until retirement in 1986. Wilbur always said, "He never had a chance, because he was surrounded by women."

Wilbur is survived by his daughters, Sonja and husband John Slavin of Enid, OK, and Kay and husband James Gardner of Dover, OK; granddaughters, Angela Blair and fiancé Edward Barns, Christy Slavin of Enid, OK, and Kimberly and husband Dean Jones of Apache, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Brittany and Brieanne Mullenix and Brendan, Mikaela and Colton Barns all of Enid, OK; two sisters, Rita Pelfrey and Sonja Hyke of Enid, OK; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Wilbur is preceded in death by his wife, Edna Gunning Thompson; son, Wilbur Jr.; parents; grandson, Michael; brothers, Jack, Walter and Ira Lee; and sisters, Viola, Eleanor and Neva Jo.

Wilbur will be missed. He always will be remembered for never growing up and always enjoying life, his family and his loving God.
