A Celebration of Life service for Andy Shelton Sr. is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, at Emmanuel Baptist Church Chapel, 2505 West Owen K. Garriott, with the Rev. Wade Burleson officiating. A private family burial follows in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family is 7-8 p.m. this evening, Oct. 11, 2016, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.

Andy was born Nov. 20, 1928, in Pawhuska to Auza Dee and Vina Sue (Garrett) Shelton, and went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Oct. 8, 2016, at St. Mary's Hospital, Enid.

Andy was an adventurous soul. At the age of 14, he left home and traveled to California to find his fortune. Along the way, he met and married the love of his life, Ruth Ilena Rincker Feb. 9, 1947, at age 18. They lived in Stockton, Calif., Kansas City, Mo., and Tonkawa before making their home in Enid for the past 48 years. As a young man, Andy farmed and raised cattle for a short while in Selago, Oklahoma. He then moved to Ruth's hometown of Kansas City, Mo., where he worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad; studied as a pastry chef and managed several NuWay Drive Inns, before moving back to Oklahoma.

In Tonkawa, Andy was owner/operator of the A&R diner and the bus station. He moved to Enid in 1969, and opened A & R Ceramics along with his wife Ruth. Andy also worked for U.S. Post Office during his entrepreneur ventures. He retired from the post office in 1990, to care for his beloved wife, Ruth.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; a brother; and three sisters.

Andy is survived by his three children, daughter, Willa Rude and husband, Bill, of Enid; son, Andrew D. Shelton Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Enid; daughter, Mary Sue Boyle and husband, Jim, of Ocoee, Fla.; fourteen grandchildren and spouses; twenty great-grandchildren and spouses; six great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Niger Africa Missionaries, Emmanuel Baptist Church.
